Thoughts on Dishonored 1 vs 2 in 2021?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2021 09:07 AM PDT

I've only recently gotten into Dishonored and it's now one of my favorite series in gaming. Just finished D2 the other day and I was wondering what the general consensus among fans is these days in terms of the first versus the second and which people look back upon more favorably and why?

As much as I love both of them, I feel like D1 will stick with me more because imo I think the characters and setting are more memorable than D2. That's not to say I don't like D2 because I think it does a lot of stuff better than 1 and is still one of my favorite games.

When will killing people in Death of the Outsider have an impact?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2021 12:24 PM PDT

So, the game has no Chaos system, meaning that I am finally permitted to kill with abandon.

But I read that killing certain people (other than the Outsider) leads to changes in other levels. What are those, if any?

    Thanks!

Is crafting bone charms any good?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2021 11:32 AM PDT

In my first run of D2, i completely ignored bone charm crafting and had tons of raw whalebone in my inventory. I want to know if it's worth it to learn the trait and have you guys crafted any cool bone charms.

Looking for some new player advice

    Posted: 04 Oct 2021 10:30 AM PDT

So, I'm finally going back and playing one of the last of the great Immersive Sims I have yet to play. I played Dishonored 2 when it first came out and just finished Prey. For some reason 1 never clicked with me but I'm in the right mindset now.

One thing I learned with Prey is that you really need to understand the full suit of mechanics available to solve problems to really get into the game. For example, recycle chargers aren't for doing what they say they do on the tin, they're for insane damage and clearing debris. If you look at a blocked entrance and think "oh I don't have the leverage skill, I'll move along" or look at a locked door and think "I'll come back when I have the code" you're playing Prey wrong. You need to look at every problem and think "There's at least 3-4 ways to tackle this and I almost certainly have one of them, I just need to work through this problem".

I approach every stealth game (Like Deus Ex) under the assumption that I can do everything with zero kills and zero detections, I just need to work through the problem. I was wondering though if I'm missing something with DH1.

I noticed early that the guards pathing/vision isn't as forgiving as in something like Deus Ex. I figured "Alright, I'll make sure I stock up on sleep darts, that seems to be the bees knees for no kill stealth runs". But I came across a couple scenario in the first mission and I thought "Huh... what's the solution here?". For example, the 3 guys trying to break down Granny Rags door. I snuck out the back way and hit them all with sleep darts. Though it seems like as soon as you hit someone with a dart, anyone around knows where you shot it from. This was different to other games where you'd have a few seconds of guards looking around. That felt kind of lame. I guess I won't be getting the 0 detections bonus at the end of the mission? The same thing happened with the 2 thugs in front of the boarded up shop keep. I hit them both with sleep darts but the second one knew my location the second the first one hit his buddy. I tried tossing a bottle to get one of the guards to walk away but they just turned their head briefly and stayed put.

Is there any way to do those 2 side quests without being detected? I felt like I was missing a key mechanic or tool in my arsenal. Is that just the way it is for some side missions? There's no way to complete them without detection? Is that what people refer to when they say the combat mechanics are really good and immersive but the stealth needed fleshing out? If I had slow/stop time I could try to fire 3 bolts at once but it's too early in the game.

Also is there any way to non lethally take someone out once they've detected you?

Is there a way to non lethally take someone out from up high or did that only get added in DH2?

    Thanks for any information/advice.

    Editing Practice

    Hey everyone!

Fairly recently I made my first video and it went better than I could have hoped for. As a result, however, I got pretty bad performance anxiety and went into hiding for a while. In an effort to coax myself back into it as well as get some hefty practice in I've set myself a goal of making a video a day of whatever takes my fancy. I hope you enjoy, more to come!

Where is the Cyria Gardens map during Royal Conservatory mission?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2021 06:12 AM PDT

I'm trying to not leave anything behind. Cant find the district map (not the conservatory map from overseer spy post) anywehre though I know it's somewhere because this youtube video shows it:

Even the wiki says there is no district map but clearly there must be one as the video shows

What are some songs that have a dishonored vibe to them? I'm making a playlist for my D2 clean hands, ghost playthrough.

Looking for emotional resolve (high chaos run)

    Posted: 03 Oct 2021 05:58 PM PDT

I'm trying to 100% of the game achievements, and that means (sadly) I have to do a high chaos run. Low chaos/ghost/clean hands is easy for me, but I can't stomach the thought of the game outcome. It is literally the only achievement I have left to do, but I can't stomach the thought of having Samuel hate Corvo or turning Emily into a tyrant. I know it's stupid, and I should just grit and bear it. It doesn't matter, but I just can't. Send resolve/kick in the ass.

Do you also replay this masterpiece?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2021 11:58 PM PDT

I always once in a year play this game. I start with killing in Dishonored 1 then DLC and then kill noone in Dishonored 1 then DLC. Does anybody else do this? It obviously takes me a few weeks but its worth it. Sadly cant play Dishonored 2 cuz my pc is trash.
