Dishonored 2 has spoiled me for non-lethal

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 12:12 PM PDT

I just finished my first ever playthrough of DH2 (as Emily) and before replaying as Corvo, I had planned to play DH1 again and was looking forward to it. I still am, but...

I always played my Corvo as non-violent with the exception of my For The Achievement HC run, because I feel guilty about killing imaginary collections of pixels and stock dialogue. It worked great, I had fun, and I love the game to bits. And I can never do it again.

I love the first game to bits, but DH2 has so many more options, not to mention the option to play Assault + Non-lethal, which is great when you stink at stealth but don't want to save-scum. (Try saying that five times fast.) After I finally mastered drop takedowns, Emily's fighting style changed to "climb chandelier, drop on head, climb back up" and honestly I'm happy to do this until the end of time. There's something incredibly satisfying about slamming Delilah's head into the ground from a fifty-foot drop. After all that, how can I go back?

You can knock people out with bottles! You can kick them in the head and not have to wait the several subjective hours it takes to knock them unconscious! What can I do in DH1? Sneak around until I inevitably trip over my own feet while holding a tank of whale oil, or s l o w l y choke out all fifty guards in the building (playtime: 18h). If I replay now, Corvo may end up going on an impulsive O God What Have I Done murder spree through all of Dunwall just because someone walked under the wrong chandelier.

I mean, I probably won't, because aforementioned guilt complex, but still.

(and the music!! is so good!!! holy shit they made folk music that sounds like actual folk sung by real people do you know how rare that is)

tl;dr: I played DH2 and can therefore never enjoy another videogame again, ever. Except Pong.

    Loyalists

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 02:03 PM PDT

Currently playing Dishonored : Do the loyalists realise Corvo has supernatural abilities? Their decision to screw him over seems very odd, if they knew he had the outsiders mark. The only thing I can think of is that Pendleton gave him a rune after completing his Lord Shaw task in the Boyle Manor mission. Thoughts?

Dishonored 2 mission 7 appreciation of great design and details

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 09:11 AM PDT

So as I was promised here in Reddit that there's more to surprise me after I loved how interesting the clockwork house level was.

I'm replaying the game with Corvo high chaos and decided to try to kill Stilton from the past and whether this would change the ritual somehow.

I expected "mission failed...blah" message... Not only the game continued but I was shocked to see that the mansion in the present is completely changed!

No bloodflies, no dogies, no destruction... Just butterflies...

That makes it 3 times the house was being modelled , backed up by story etc...hats off to such a dedication by Arcane!

PS : this makes it seems that all runes in the present are lost ,but nevertheless... I didn't expect that. I wonder what else is there to experience in this game.. (yes , I'm yet to complete my high chaos run and Corvo keeps repeating that he's killing people all the time makes me nervous... Furious Delilah about her killed minion that built her statue also makes me wonder of the implications)

    Cheers!

Should I get "Death of the Outsider"? I'd rather ask here rather than google and risk spoilers :)

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 06:44 AM PDT

I am now replaying the original game and wondering if this is the time to buy Death of the Outsider. However, I have some doubts about the story, so I hoped you would give me recommendations.

My favorite game is the first one + the DLCs for it. The story in the first game is straight like a railroad, however it is very well written and dialogues and all are highly professional. So that I love a lot. I also like the clear and relatable motivations of both Corvo and Daud.

I kinda liked Dishonored 2 as well, but the writing seemed much weaker to me. Level design is still great and I enjoyed the game-play, but the dialogues and all the lore felt a bit empty. I also could not play as Emily, because it just felt very out-of-character for her? I couldn't imagine the empress hiding in sewers, so I completed the story only for Corvo. One more a bit disappointing thing was the lack of companions - the ship is almost completely empty. The endings did not feel satisfactory either (I did them all - from the best one to letting Emily stay as stone). So, my main issue with Dishonored 2 is weak writing and somewhat boring characters.

And now I was thinking to get "Death of the Outsider", but several things in Dishonored 2 ending got me worried about it. First of all, it seems that Billie wants to meed Daud to get rid of the Outsider or something like that. It doesn't feel reasonable story-wise, I mean - why? Yes, he's probably not the kindest person(if "kind" and "person" even apply to him) in the world, but he was not an enemy, so why go after him? As I said before characters used to have more clear motivations - Corvo wanted to save the Empress (both of them), Daud wanted to fix his mistakes. But the motivation to kill(?) the Outsider is just strange to me. Also I don't really like Billie as a character, she was quite boring and I did not even remember that she was part of Daud's gang, so I am not looking forward to playing as her. She also did not seem very interesting in D2. And another thing that worries me - did the decline in writing quality drop even further in the "DOTO"? Are there any memorable moments and dialogues? Because I can barely remember anything like that from D2.

I would appreciate it a lot if you could advise me whether I should get the game but avoid the major spoilers. I am just interested if the points that worry me (main character, motivations, writing quality) are going to be weak spots in DOTO game.

    Thanks!

    Almost perfect

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 05:20 AM PDT

I really like Dishonored 2. The gameplay, the controls, the graphics, the art design. Everything is great. The only thing that bothers me is that after you finish the story, you can't free roam. Even though I have no problem playing the story over and over again, I wished there was more than only the story mode. Certainly I can't be the only one that has this opinion?

What was the hardest Dunwall City Trial to complete with 3 stars?

For me it was the Burglar one. I spent so long learning the perfect route to bamboozle all the guards without touching any of them on Expert mode.
