Petition to add the Arkane20 products to the Bethesda EU store.

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 04:59 AM PDT

For those of you who don't know, Arkane is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary. Among other methods of celebration, a few products commemorating this momentous occasion have been added to the Bethesda store link. And while this is awesome, there's a problem: this amazing , limited-time merch is only available in the "regular" version of the online store, which only ships to twenty-one countries. By comparison, the EU store ships to ninety-one countries. However, as I'm sure you've guessed because of this post's title, the EU store doesn't have any of the Arkane20 merch link.

Now, I'm not normally one to buy merch, but I love Arkane. I love their games. Nothing would make me happier than showing my support by buying a beautiful piece of artwork that celebrates the studio and its achievements. But for whatever reason, it seems Bethesda has decided to limit the merch to people in twenty-one countries. I can't speak to their reasons for doing this; I'm sure it's not arbitrary. But I still feel that I must try to make them change their mind. I tried tweeting them, received got no response. An email I sent was answered with "At the moment we have no information about this. Please sign up for our newsletter or visit our store again to stay informed."

So, now I'm asking you, r/Dishonored. I know this probably seems like a stupid thing to fret about, but this is very important to me, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to buy this awesome, limited-edition merch, but can't because the US store doesn't ship to my country. As the largest Arkane-related subreddit, I believe this place gives the best chance of being heard by the people in charge.

If you want to support this goal, please, post a comment here expressing your support and tweet at Bethesda or the Bethesda EU store. With any luck, someone will notice us.

    Thank you for reading.

I think recognize the problem with Dishonoured's writing for Corvo and Emily.

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 03:29 PM PDT

I suspect Arkane wanted the player to feel like they could reasonably insert themselves into the role, so little characterization was given.

They did something similar with Prey, if you've played that. I won't spoil in case you haven't, but they accomplished a very clever thing with that, whereby they both characterized Morgan Yu and didn't characterize them - as such, not violating the player's agency. Unfortunately, that fact is bound to the nature of the narrative, and it wouldn't quite jive with the functions of Dishonoured.

People love Daud because he was a fully established character with a strong personality - we took control of him after he went through a life-changing experience, so were justified in being able to interpret him in different ways. The Outsider even comments on this radical change: sneering and cynical about Daud's descent into further moral apathy in High Chaos, and bemused-but-mocking fascination about his seeming attempts at redemption in Low Chaos. Once again, you have both established character and player agency.

VO work for Emily and Corvo go some ways in providing characterization, but the actual lines tend to be extremely unremarkable ("Anton Sokolov made this lock" was famous for a reason) so as to convey information, but not impose any feelings that the player may or may not have about a situation. It becomes only weirder when certain lines or diary entries are trying to convey certain feelings.

Daud's lines were far more... subtle, in a certain way. They were simple comments, but often a good little flavouring of personality sprinkled over.

Arkane is one of my favourite studios right now, and Dishonoured one of my favourite original settings in the last decade. Just a few little writer's corner comments. Here's to more whiskey and cigars in the future.

I've been touched by The Outsider but I don't have powers and it looks a knockoff mark

Anyone feel that the original game had a horror aesthetic to it?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 02:03 PM PDT

Imagine being a city watch guard, patrolling, trying to make money for your family. And then a man with a metal skull mask jumps from above, stabs your best friend, and disappears.

You quickly rush to your friend, but he's already dead.

You go to find help, they are all dead too. You remain and have to fight for yourself, knowing you probably can't win.

That combined with the grungy, dark aesthetic of Dunwall and the plague and it makes for a potential horror spinoff.

Dies chaos really effect gameplay for Dishonored 2?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 04:11 PM PDT

I want to kill everyone, but will it make the game way harder or what? Also, this game makes my OCD crazy because there is so much stuff you can easily miss...

    Is a "genocide" run possible?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 02:55 PM PDT

So a no kill run is a pretty common thing to do in dishonored 1, but is it possible to kill EVERYBODY? Not only hostiles, but everyone at Lady Boyles party, Granny Rags and starting that weird sidequest to save slackjaw, while also killing him, every NPC in the DLCs, etc. Are there any things that prevent this such as one sidequest stopping other NPCs from spawning, or guards spawning forever? I know that i probably cant kill Callista, Emily, Samuel and people like that.

[Dishonored 2] Couple of basic questions I couldn't find answers to

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 09:34 AM PDT

    • On your first playthrough, if you choose to play as Corvo, do you have any powers unlocked from the start?

    • On New Game+, will I have my powers from the very first mission, or must I wait until I first meet the Outsider to have access to them?

    Big huge thanks!

In Dishonored 2 are both of the stories the same?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 11:45 PM PDT

I just finished playing as Emily in Dishonored 2. I started playing as Corvo and it seems to start the same. Are the stories the same but you just have different abilities? Thanks.

    Is corvo a concubinage?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 09:33 PM PDT

Jessamine didn't take on the Attano name, for obvious reasons, buy corvo never took kaldwin. Do post marriage naming convention differ? Or is corvo a male concubine?
