My girlfriend asked if I was 'doing a pathetic run' in Dishonored. She meant Pacifist.

Beat Dishonored 2 for the first time, really enjoyable experience.

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 01:45 PM PST

Couple weeks ago I replayed Thief: Dark Project and got the itch for more. Instead of Thief 2, went with this game, since I remembered the first Dishonored favorably.

And to my surprise, I could deny the powers of outsider after first mission, which I promptly did. I feel like I got a proper Thief experience by turning off objective markers, ghosting everything, and no kills, plus Stephen Russell to boot.

Story and writing I didn't enjoy as much sadly, but the setting is pretty amazing (you even have nod to Thief 2 Mechanists with Clockwork Soldiers I thought). I also really love that missions are designed in such way that you can beat them with no powers. So many ways to get around levels.

Anyhow, just wanted to share and really hope they make a third one! Would you recommend DLC as well for this game?

Well that was... an interesting way to count the number of Runes in the game (Mostly Flesh and Steel run)

Insane micro stuttering in D2. Any solutions ?

Just got back to D2 after a couple of years. What i instantly noticed on my new playthrough is the insane micro stuttering i have ( photo for reference, check this frame time ) . It makes the game play like shit. I have fiddled more than an hour with the settings of the game and haven't pinpointed to one setting that causes this. This is with all the settings on ultra/high. This stuttering is gone though when all settings have been turned to lowest, where the frametime is very consistent and smooth. Its definitely a game and not a pc issue since any intensive game is playing perfectly on my pc.

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 03:01 PM PST

I got the second game about 4 days ago and finished it today low chaos and now killing anyone. The game was so amazing it was definitely in my top 5 favorite games of all time. So now I want to get another one

I saw this kill in a tribute montage. 400 hours of gameplay through all three titles and dlc and I’ve never seen it before. Makes me wonder, are there any other hard-to-get kill animations? What are they?

[SPOILER] Why does Samuel alert the guards at Kingsparrow Island?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 07:58 PM PST

In High Chaos, Samuel fires his gun into the air if you're not quick enough to kill him. He says that Corvo is probably the worst of the Loyalists, which is a fair judgment in my most recent playthrough... "High Chaos" might be an understatement.

Obviously, Samuel fires his gun to alert the guards, but what does he really think is going to happen? Perhaps he hopes that Corvo will be killed, but I get the impression that Samuel cares for Emily and her safety—so why would he further endanger her life by trying to hinder Corvo's progress toward Havelock?

I think Samuel might not realize that Havelock is willing to kill Emily, but I think Samuel would be aware of the possibility given how Havelock murders several people prior to fleeing to Kingsparrow Island.

Alternatively, perhaps Samuel believes that an empire with Havelock controlling Emily is better than one with Corvo controlling Emily—let's be honest, I don't think Havelock would have let Emily live if Corvo had not intervened.

Sorry if this matter is addressed in the books or other canon, but I definitely have some questions.

Note: the end slide that occurs when Samuel is killed made me guffaw. Corvo's standing tenderly above Samuel's grave as if he didn't decapitate Samuel in his own boat

Live Action Dishonored Idea/Ramble (Sorry in Advance if this is a little long and not well constructed, this is my first post on Reddit... Like Ever)

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 11:35 PM PST

I know Live Action video game movies have a tendency for being terrible, but I feel like the story of Dishonored (and maybe even the sequel and the DLC) would be perfect for live action. Like if HBO ever decided to get their hands on the Live Action rights to the series I feel like a 10 episode limited series would be amazing. On the other hand it could totally suck but I feel like with The Last of Us getting the live action treatment, this could be a thing in the nearby future.

A problem with this idea is that the game can be played Low Chaos or High Chaos and thing vastly changes the ending for players depending on the play style. But I feel that with the Low Chaos Ending (for the first game and it's DLC at least) being the cannon ending I think you could craft a decent story and script for a live action Dishonored series.

    Like imagine:

    - A 9 to 10 episode season for the main game of Dishonored 1

    - and a spin off season focusing on Daud during "The Knife of Dunwall" and "The Brigmore Witches"

    - Potentially a second season based on Dishonored 2 with Emily being around 8 to 9 episodes

    - and potentially (but less likely) another spin-off season based off of Death of The Outsider

I could totally see this being on something like HBO Max and each episode focusing on the missions and side quests Corvo goes on during the course of the game. Like episode 1 being about his return to Dunwall, reuniting with Jessamine and Emily, being framed for Jessamines murder and Emily's kidnapping, his time in prison, his escape, and meeting Samuel and The Loyalists. The end of Episode 1 being something along the lines of him meeting the Outsider in the void.

Episode 2 could open with Corvo testing out his powers in the void and learning about Runes and Bone Charms. Then Corvo wakes up in his room, trains a bit, gets his gear, meets the rest of the Loyalists and then gets on Samuel's boat and heads back to Dunwall to get the High Overseer. He saves Captain Curnow and brands High Overseer Campbell with the heretics brand and heads back to the Hounds Pits Pub.

Each episode basically being the missions you go on through out the game but with the story and actions of the low chaos ending and the books. Corvo would explore the world through each episode/mission and we as the viewer would learn about Dunwall and the surrounding areas through Corvos inner dialogue, actions, reactions, and things he'd come across through out the series. Hopefully they'd bring in the original writers and creators of the series to guide the production team and we'd get a great live action dishonored series.

(An upside to being on a channel or platform like HBO is that they have a great backlog of actors and actresses they like to put in their shows like Chris Chalk, Glenn Fleshler, Lena Headey (Calista from The first game) and many others. I felt like that was a point I should bring up.)

Certain aspects from the game wouldn't translate well to live action like the fact that in the first game Corvo doesn't speak (with the exception of Dialogue and story options in which he still doesn't speak) or how you choose upgrades to your powers (if you choose to upgrade your powers.) The only two powers I can see being cannon are void gaze and blink. But I feel like those two could be easily remedied with maybe Corvo having an internal dialogue throughout the main missions with a few speaking points (like if he comes across Slackjaw and when he comes across Overseer Martin) and when Corvo first gets his powers he just immediately and already has Void Gaze and Blink and when he comes across Runes or Bone Charms he either gets information about them from The Outsider himself or maybe The Heart.

Clearly I don't have this idea down 100% because it's just an idea, not a fully fleshed out pitch.

I just feel that Dishonored is one of those game series and franchises that is just amazing in almost all of its aspects but just isn't as popular as other game series like Call Of Duty, Assassins Creed, Halo, or The Last of Us. And I know a lot of players who wouldn't want to see Dishonored translated to Live Action with how often Video Games are butchered in that medium. But with stuff like the Tomb Raider movie, the Sonic The Hedgehog movie, The Witcher on Netflix, the upcoming Last of Us show on HBO, the Halo TV on Showtime, and the Division movie on Netflix all happening that a live action Dishonored film, show, or whatever could have the potential to be great.

Now this could all be me rambling at the early hours of the morning after a day of no sleeping and thinking this has the potential of being great and being dead wrong or maybe this does have some merit, who knows, but at the present moment I feel like this could and should (probably) happen.

With Dishonored not having the same kind of notoriety and fame I can see this not happening, but if it did I feel like you could get a great cast for it. The cast wouldn't be full of stars (like the actual games did) but I feel like you could definitely get some great talent for it with Video Game adaptations having gotten some big names for their live action debuts like Henry Cavill in The Witcher, Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain for The Division, and Jim Carrey and James Marsden for Sonic.

    Examples being:

Actors like Michiel Huisman, Richard Armitage, and Joel Kinnaman for Corvo.

Mckenna Grace for a young Emily Kaldwin.

    Holt McCallany for Havelock.

    Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Daud.

Robin Lord Taylor as The Outsider (again)

(These are just ideas not definitive casting choices)

Now I can see this totally blowing up in my face as an idea, so I will not be shocked if some (and probably many of you) think this is a bad idea. This is also my first Reddit post, so there is that as well.

Anyway if you've managed to read through this whole mess and don't 100% hate it,

    thank you kindly.

The Nature of Lord Preston Moray

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 06:13 PM PST

This man seems to be a mystery to me, but I'd like to know more for a tabletop campaign I'm whipping up. The man doesn't have his own wiki page, and the only times he's mentioned are in conjunction with Vera.

What was the nature of the Moray family fortune? Why did Vera choose to marry him over the literal Emperor of the Isles? What makes this lad so special?

Things I've managed to find out:

    • 1790, Lord Moray marries Vera at his estate in Dunwall's Estate District.
    • 1806-1810, Moray and Vera set out to explore Pandyssia. Vera comes back marked, Moray presumably does not because...
    • He sends her away to Addermire Institute, presumably unaffected himself.
    • 1814, and then 4 years later Preston is killed by Vera.

One thing though, its kind of implied that the runes Granny Rags gives you are carved from Preston's bones right? But usually runes and charms are made from whale bones, not just any old bones. Could Preston have been different or touched somehow? Probably not overtly marked, but maybe something from Pandyssia changed him? Maybe he had a whaling empire, since Roseburrow discovered whale oil a bit before all this.

I feel like the mystery regarding his profession is probably answered by some label, item, or note I missed, but I can't find any other references to him elsewhere.
