The Overseers are a realistic interpretation of the Jedi order

    Okay so think about it:

The Overseers are religiously driven, seek to wipe out heretics and the dark arts, use sabres that aren't actually sabres, kidnap children and outlaw romantic relationships.

But there's something more to it that's handled more realistically than Star Wars handles its warrior monks: they are an unelected order that operates by its own rules, with leaders chosen internally and carries the authority of the military or police without being accountable to elected officials.

Now the Jedi are portrayed as good guys, but Dishonored more realistically shows us an easily corruptible and dogmatic organisation that executes moral judgement and extrajudicial powers with its status and even uses its rank over the military/police to reach those goals.

That's not to say they're just evil, again Dishonored is generally more grey and grounded, so there's more to them than that. This is shown in their assaults on the Whalers, Witches and Howlers, all of these groups are largely villainous or at least criminal (Whalers are paid killers, the Witches are psychotic killers, the Howlers are a criminal gang/partisan extremists) and so the Overseers are, like the Jedi, generally used to maintain peace, but unlike the Jedi this position where they hold no accountability, can brand anyone they want (sometimes literally) as evil and freely take those people's freedoms or lives and the fact that they operate without any oversight (ironically) save from others whom are also brainwashed into the order makes for a perfect storm of corruption, once someone like Campbell was in power, something only the Overseers and that bad empress Jessamine could affect, he was able to do as he wanted with the people, press, elected officials and guard unable to stop him lest they be demonised as heretics and censored.

All in all, Dishonored takes the idea of the Jedi and looks at the reality of powerful groups that can decide to smear whomever they want as heretics, maintain ideological purity, answer to almost nobody and have zero internal affairs department being given run of the military and extrajudicial powers and does so masterfully, I really wish D2 went more into the issue of the Overseers within the Kaldwin dynasty and how Emily would or would not limit their power.

Or am I talking crap and the Overseers are actually 100% righteous and anyone who dissents is an Outsider-loving heretic and possible Sith lord?

Overseer masks look like the ones in the movie 300 (2006)

Sorry if this has been posted here before but wouldn't it be cool to have these as a gadget? Maybe to scout and mark enemies or even climb onto them to inject poison or tranquilizer (can be switched like the hook mines)

Replay mission to continue 'Clean Hands'?

    Posted: 10 Jan 2021 12:03 PM PST

    Hey all,

I'm currently on a very hard Ghost and Clean Hands playthrough and finished mission 6, only to find out I accidentally killed a guard. I'm presuming I sleep darted him and he died due to falling. So, I replayed the mission from the stat screen at the end, then at the start of that replay I loaded a save just before I killed the guard and successfully continued the level without alerting or killing anybody. I deleted all previous saves of that mission, of which the guard would have been killed. Is it safe now to progress onto mission 7? I don't need to replay the whole game again, right?

    Many thanks.

So when I get either Paolo or Overseer's body can I just walk right through the area for example I kill Paolo and walk up to the overseer will he let me through. And do I have to really kill Paolo twice.
