Lady Boyle/Brisby would have been a more interesting villain than Delilah.

    Posted: 10 Mar 2021 01:43 AM PST

When I first played through the whole of Dishonored 2, I came to the realization that Delilah was the worst part of the game. Her witches are fun. Her design and power set is fun. She was not a good fit for being the villain.

As I play more and more Dishonored I was trying to figure out why she was such a cool villain in Dauds DLC but not in Dishonored 2. Then It hit me. Delilah is Dauds villain, not Emily or Corvo. Delilah was both a foil and reflection of Daud. They both came from destitute upbringings, clawing their way up to where they are now. They were both given the powers of the outsider and both decided to use that power for destruction rather than making the world better. Daud realized he had gone too far, and by eliminating Delilah, he was eliminating that part of him that only wanted to destroy and to mangle.

I feel this is why Delilah was not satisfying enough when she was thrown against Corvo and Emily. Corvo had never crossed paths with her, and Emily had nothing to do with Delilahs tragic past. Neither of the protagonists had any hand in Delilahs path before now, not to mention Delilah was locked away in the void and for all intents and purposes dead.

Now there is only one Antagonist from the first game I could see coming back with a vengeance. Even with non lethal eliminations, all your targets ultimately would die or be powerless. Campbell dies of the plague, the Pendletons probably died in their own mines, Burrows and Hemlock were executed and Daud fled the city a changed man. The only one left is Waverly Burrows.

Canonically, Waverly was the Lady Boyle we were after and corvo gave her to lord Brisby rather than kill her. Boyle eventually married Brisby before he died mysteriously in a ship wreck. I believe that Boyle arranged for this to happen as she would inherent all of her husband's estate.

Corvo had a direct hand in her misfortune and I doubt she was willing to let that go, especially if she had the guts to kill her husband/abductor. Emily was the reason Corvo did it in the first place so she would want to tear it all down. Maybe she would see herself as a revolutionary and desire to tear the whole thing down.

You wouldn't have to change the story too much either. She could still be a witch, using her noble status and her magic to gather the same allies Delilah did. Maybe she even has a mark of her own, since her situation may have been interesting enough. She can still claim that She was the illegitimate sibling of Jessamine and frame corvo for being the Crown killer. Boyle performed a ritual in the Stilton mansion to remove her soul that way she can't be killed. You wouldn't have to change too much till the end.

I'm not sure how you would end the story. A part of me wants to revisit the Boyle manor and explore that once again, maybe Emily uses the time key to stop Lord Brisby from getting away with Boyle. Something more climactic what we got. An ending that actually makes sense and shows the protagonists changing for the better rather than just getting worse or staying the same. The whole game built up to Emily learning to rule better and be more serious with her position but it just doesn't happen and that's sad. Boyle may have brought that out much better.

Tldr: Delilah was a cool idea, but Bringing lady Boyle back would have made more sense story wise and could have been just as cool.

    A cool discovery I made

When playing on no powers mode, you don't have a mana bar. You can still collect potions but they're seemingly useless as you cannot use them.

But I just got the Void Armor black bonecharm. It says that "when you take damage, a significant portion is instead subtracted from mana"

I tested it out by hitting myself with a spring razor. It did less damage than usual and, to my surprise, I could now use a mana potion.

Everyone has mana. It's just not visible if you don't have powers because there's nothing to spend it on.
