Lady Boyle's fate and a cowardly retcon.

    Posted: 14 Nov 2021 08:41 PM PST

In Dishonored, we have a choice whether we kill Lady Boyle or hand her over to her stalker. Here is what the Outsider had to say about it:

"I can see all her tomorrows and I know that either she dies tonight at your hand or she'll live out her days, month after month, year after year, far away, even as her fine clothes wear into tatters and her silken hair gets dull and gray. (...) Either way, it's Lady Boyle's last party."

Now, if you read some supplementary material (or hang out on this sub), you'll find out that Lady Boyle supposedly killed the guy, got her hands on his fortune and freed herself. Sounds like a cause for celebration. A party perhaps? Lol.

Now, what was all that shit about her living out her life far away as her fine clothes wear into tatters and her silken hair gets dull and gray?

My guess is, the creators of the game have heard the fandom reacting to that part of the game with more negativity than the other non-lethal sadistic choices (pretty irrational, considering what the rest was), so they retconned it to appease the fans. Well, the few that read supplementary materials.

How does the save system deal with replayed missions?

    Posted: 15 Nov 2021 05:12 PM PST

Say I finish mission 6 and mission 7 is unlocked. I start playing mission 7. Then I find out I missed a bonecharm on missing 6 and decide to play it again.

After getting the missing bonecharm from mission 6, if I start mission 7 by clicking the Mission 7 slot, will the bonecharm carry over correctly?

Also, I assume there os no way to replay an earlier a mission (say, 3) to get all the collectibles to carry over, unless you play all the following missions up to 7, is that right?

    Help on the lore D:

    Posted: 15 Nov 2021 12:57 PM PST

So, I've officialy finished Dishonored, Knife of Dunwall and Dishonored 2. Now where do I go for more lore? I really like the actual world of Dishonored and since there's no Dishonored 3, I'm willing to read any comics/books to expand my knowledge.

    Idea; Rubber Bullets upgrade

    Posted: 14 Nov 2021 10:12 AM PST

Okay, I've found that through my playthroughs of both D1 and D2 I have never used the pistol except once as a meme.

You know what would make it a lot more usable? Two upgrades like this:

    - Rubber Bullet Adapter (600 coin) - Allows the pistol to fire a non lethal bullet, which upon headshot knocks out enemies,. Enough torso shots can also knock one out but will always stagger anyone hit.

    - Muffler Attachment (600 coin) - Considerably reduces the noise of shots. Think people in the same room would turn around to the noise but no one outside.

With these two, I might actually use the pistol one of these days.

The Chaos System, future installments, and Dr. Hypatia

    Posted: 14 Nov 2021 04:40 AM PST

We all want a sequel. Arkane makes good stealth games.

It doesn't need to be called 'Dishonored' anything, and in fact, I think it would be more interesting to cover other themes that aren't quite in the same vein as 'character is disgraced and must murder many (or not) to get back what they lost.'

We could have some other sharp mononym title. Like 'Torment'. Or 'Void'. Or 'Strife'.

Actually, that last one might be taken already, but it doesn't matter right now.

The Chaos system, and the series' approach to well defined levels with variations depending on how previous levels were played works quite well, and I think could be taken to a much further extent than previously. Whole buildings could controlled by different kinds of people, or entirely sealed off depending on very small choices in the game, not all of which have to be overtly signaled to the player.

But Level Design isn't the point of this post.

    Characters are.

Specifically, Alexandra Hypatia and Grim Alex.

One large facet, or gap depending on your perspective, of the first game was how 'punishing' playing lethally could be. A ton of the coolest powers and gadgets pretty exclusively killed enemies. The sequel remedied a large part of this by making non-lethal more accessible, especially for Emily's powers. Mesmerize, and Shadowalk especially have built in utility for such, as well as Far Reach still allowing you to choke out targets, by bringing them to you no less!

Depending on how you spent your runes, you could vastly cater your powers to different Chaos playthroughs, especially in NewGame+.

So this all got me thinking, what about a hypothetical sequel to feature Hypatia, post DotO, where Grim Alex isn't entirely banished from her. As a protagonist, I think it could be very interesting to have an inner struggle character who very pointedly reflects the players decisions.

Levels aren't the only things that could change with Chaos or playstyle. The very character themselves could too. Corvo and Emily's Chaos dependent lines didn't always hit very well, but I think the Hypatia/Grim Alex dynamic could be very fun to play out more. More bloodthirsty players would see Grim Alex gain ground in the character's psyche, while merciful ones could fight back against darker impulses and have Hypatia remain in control. The powers/abilities available to the player could change in response to which half of the psyche they leaned into.

There could even be middle ground options to cover, where perhaps Hypatia manages to, maybe not redeem, but at least connect to Grim Alex in a personal way, convincing her other half that there are reasons to be restrained sometimes. Alternatively, Grim Alex could wrest control and darken Hypatia, not to a soulless killer, but perhaps a much bloodier pragmatist when it comes to 'aid'.

It might seem a bit odd to suggest that Dr. Hypatia be the star of a stealth game, but given that Grim Alex used her body to do all the sneaky Crown Killing, you could argue that muscle memory applied. She's certainly surgical enough to justify being able to one-shot incapacitate enemies like Corvo did. I'm not trying to start a VS. debate, just saying that the suspension of disbelief would not be stressed at all by a Hypatia/Grim Alex protagonist in stealth game.

TL;DR, Dr. Hypatia is a viable protagonist for a future sequel.

Is Blink teleporting or moving fast?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2021 06:34 AM PST

I was playing Dishonored 2 today - great game - and as Corvo I tried to blink through a Wall of Light, yet it disintegrated me. So I tried again, this time I just stopped time and ran through unharmed. So does Blink make you move really fast? Obviously stopping time is stopping time, cause even Jindosh says "I detected you in two places at once" so ye.
