Did it serve its purpose? Was it poorly implemented? What could have been done to make it better?

Most fun powers for Emily lethal playthrough?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2021 10:38 AM PDT

I already have the Far Reach upgrade that lets you yeet enemies all over the place, it's pretty hilarious.
I feel like most of her kit is better for a non-lethal playthrough though...

If you could rewrite any of the games, what changes would you make?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2021 11:46 PM PDT

What if, by some magic, you could go back in time and get Arkane to make changes to any of the games? What could have been done better? What ideas would have been cool to see?

For me, I've only played Dishonored, so I'll only speak on it.

    Here are some minor changes:

The chaos rating now definitively lists a medium chaos option.

Improve the ragdoll physics for bodies.

Add some sort of dialouge or note presented in Campbell's mission clarifying that those branded are investigated for corruption. I never understood why Campbell couldn't just say "this psycho did this to me, it doesn't count." Maybe something about how he was found guilty after so many overseers wanted him gone due to the blackmail.

Give Madame Prudence a bigger role, possibly making her a target. She is knowingly hiding the Empress. That seems like a big deal.

During Return to the Tower, improve the mechanics around the audiograph. If Corvo kills Burrows before playing the audiograph, the game will still recognize that Burrows was exposed, and Dunwall responds accordingly. This way, players can get revenge and clear their name at the same time.

Alternatively, if Corvo plays the audiograph before killing Burrows, the arrest of Burrows will play out differently based on chaos. In low chaos, the guards will arrest Burrows as seen in game. In medium chaos, the guards get rough with Burrows. In high chaos, the guards attack Burrows and push him over the railing, where he falls to his death. If Corvo approaches the guards in high chaos, they will not attack him, but instead say they will offer Corvo the ability to kill Burrows, despite his pleas.

I don't think mandating Burrows die in high chaos would be wrong - after all, he would be executed regardless.

In The Flooded District, after Corvo duels Daud, if he chooses to spare him, he now cuts off Daud's hand, severing his connection to the Outsider.

Add a special animation for killing Granny Rags that includes the amputation of her hand.

    I now present two alternatives.

Alt 1 is an edited version of the final level. When Corvo reaches the top of the lighthouse in low chaos, instead of Pendleton and Martin already being dead, we can spy on their conversations and witness their poisonings. We can simply let this happen, or intervene.

If Corvo walks in after they have drank, they will have unique dialouge as they realize they are dying. If he walks in before, they have a different dialouge. Corvo can choose their fates, either telling them "they will stand trial for their crime" or "Your lives are about to end."

If we chose the former, Pendleton prostrates himself for mercy, and Martin will try to argue in his favor. Pendleton runs into the speaker booth opposite the stairs where he will remain until interacted with again. He is considered neutralized. Martin looks to Havelock and back at Corvo, before throwing down his sword and walking to stand by the statue of Burrows, where he is also considered neutralized. Both can still be attacked, and have unique animations.

If we choose the later, Pendleton throws his glass at Corvo and Martin attacks. Havelock will join the fight ONLY if approached or attacked, otherwise he stands aside by the fireplace. Pendleton and Martin must be either knocked unconscious or killed.

When we approach Havelock, he will make a comment about Martin and Pendleton, depending on if they were spared or killed, and the rest happens as it does in game.

In medium chaos, the same scene plays out, but, if Corvo intervenes before they drink, Havelock will shoot Pendleton and stab Martin, and say he "didn't want to do it this way." He will then give his Emily speech, and the rest proceeds normally.

In high chaos, it is the same as the base game, except Pendleton has a unique death animation. Corvo grabs Pendleton and stabs him in the stomach three times, and then ends him with a slash to the throat.

    That's alt 1.

Alt 2 features two entirely new levels.

Upon returning to the Hound Pits, nobody knows where Havelock has taken Emily. The level plays out normally. When you meet Samuel, he takes you near the house of Parliament, where Treavor Pendleton is expected to be, to lead the vote to confirm Havelock as the Regent. Corvo can explore the chambers and offices, and we see what power Parliament has, political factions, ect. Corvo is tasked with finding out where Havelock is, and dealing with Pendleton.

When Corvo reaches the main chamber, he can spy on the proceedings. In low chaos, there is a strong opposition to Havelock, and tensions are civil. In medium chaos, tensions are higher and more aggressive. In high chaos, the parliament is a shouting match ending with the anti-Havelock bloc walking out to deny a quorum. If Corvo stops time and blinks to the podium Pendleton speaks from, he can steal his notes and blink away. This causes Pendleton to speak less fluently.

Ultimately, the result of the vote is pointless, as Havelock has the City Watch and navy loyal to him, and would not be deposed due to formality. However, Corvo can take actions (such as stealing Pendleton's notes, saving the anti-Havelock bloc when Pendleton authorizes the guards to kill them in high-chaos) to sway the vote.

After the vote, assuming Corvo didn't intervene, Pendleton returns to his office and consults his aides. Corvo can reveal himself, where Pendleton will pathetically beg for his life, and give Corvo the whereabouts of Havelock and Emily. In high chaos, Pendleton will try to attack Corvo. If Corvo eliminates Pendleton without revealing himself, he carries a book revealing the information. This can also be pickpocketed.

If players wish to eliminate Pendleton without killing him, they can speak to one of Pendleton's bastard sons, who intends to poison Pendleton with a venom that will not kill him, but render him unable to form long term memories or hold a train of thought. (The son wanted to then trick him into recognizing him, and then ship him off to an asylum). He gives Corvo the poison as both a vial and a dart. Corvo can either poison a drink in Pendleton's office and wait for him to drink it, or shoot Pendleton with the special dart. If Corvo does so while he is speaking, its effect will begin to show humorously.

If Corvo does all this without killing anyone, raising any alarms, or confronting Pendleton without poisoning him, Havelock and Martin will not know Corvo survived.

We learn Havelock has traveled to the lighthouse, as in the base game. However, Samuel cannot take us there, as Havelock as the navy's largest warship, the super-battleship Gristol, patrolling the waters. The Gristol is scheduled to stop patrolling to pickup High Overseer Martin and supplies (and, in High Chaos, a small army of overseers/guardsmen) to deliver to Havelock. During this break, Samuel takes us to a rock the ship will pass, and says he has a contact aboard the ship. The contact will, in exchange for coin, "accidently" drop the anchor, allowing Corvo to sneak aboard.

Corvo has several options. We can sabatoge the engine, leading to an explosion that sinks the Gristol. By prematurely releasing the lifeboats, we can ensure the deaths of those onboard. For Martin to be assassinated this way, Corvo must pickpocket his key and lock him within the bridge, so that he will drown.

If we don't want to kill everyone, we can assassinate Martin directly. If Corvo kills Martin and throws his body overboard without alerting others, and eliminated Pendleton nonlethally without being detected, Havelock will not know Corvo is alive.

To eliminate Martin non-lethally, do the following: overhear some sailors discussing the death of a crewmate. There is a maintenace space beneath the main battery that can only be sealed from the outside. This area is only checked weekly, and was last checked today. The poor soul got himself trapped with no rations, and died of dehydration There is no way screams could be heard. Corvo can knock Martin out, lock him in there with some supplies. He will spend a week in the dark, alone and with just enough supplies, only to emerge to a heretic's branding.

A whaling ship violates the blockade. In low chaos, the ship is forgiven and allowed through. In med chaos, the ship is given a warning shot. In high chaos, the Gristol sinks the merchant vessal.

If Corvo doesn't sink the Gristol, he must kill or incapacitate everyone in the control room, set a course away from the island, and lock the room with Martin's key. This allows Samuel to take you to the island.

The mission on the island is basically identical to the base game, just without Pendleton and Martin. If Corvo did not sink the Gristol, and remains "dead," and doesn't raise any alarms getting to the top, Emily is in the bedroom and Havelock is plotting. In low chaos, Havelock is trying to convince Emily to trust him, to manipulate her. In med chaos, Havelock attempts to beat Emily into submission. In high chaos, Havelock plans to murder Emily, and will if Corvo does not intervene.

If Havelock knows Corvo is alive, he will hold Emily hostage as he does in the high chaos ending of the base game.

    Thoughts?

I’m not usually one to pull cool, parkour stunts in these games, but I thought I’d share this kinda cool thing I did.

Does everyone lose their powers after Doto?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2021 10:41 PM PDT

So basically the outsider dies, does that mean everyone loses their powers? Or they can still use them?

DH2 - recommended setting for an Iron man run?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2021 03:54 AM PDT

Apologies if considering anything but the hardest difficulty is considered a sacrilege in these parts :). I always play stealth games on highest difficulty but without the ability to quick load and save I think some combat will be unavoidable, and having just finished my first DH2 run I have to say I do not look forward to the idea of potentially getting oneshot.

So my question is, which of the difficulty settings would be most reasonable for the first attempt at Iron Man, assuming the player takes measures to avoid dying instantly (defensive charms and powers)? Also, Emily or Corvo? I played with Corvo on the first run so I'm leaning towards playing with Emily, but I think not having the full Blink could make things hard in some places.

    Thanks in advance for answers.

    I struggle with dishonored 2

    Posted: 10 Oct 2021 07:58 PM PDT

Very long. TL:DR at the bottom

I played dishonored for the first time in like 2013 or 2014 and liked it alot, even though i was a little kid being about 12yrs old. I never got far but the game has always been stored up in the back of my mind. After that i never played another game from Arkade Studios, till the release of Deathloop. I bought it on Steam while it was on sale and had a blast, it was the most fun i had in a while.

I felt empty afterwards and saw that the first dishonored game is really cheap so i instantly bought it. I vividly remembered it and had fun with it years ago so why shouldnt i give it a try. I started playing and was kinda doubtful at first, thinking that i wont enjoy it as much as deathloop. After playing through the first part of the game that i knew (breaking out of the prison) i was pretty uninvested in the story. But the more missions i did, the more i actually explored the whole world i did not only have fun, i started to love every second of playing.

I had so much fun that i felt genuinely happy. I played through the first game while being hyped about the second installment and i couldnt wait. I realised that i didnt play the dlc's so i tried to rush them at first (because i wanted to play dishonored 2 so bad). But i just felt bad about it, restarted and began to play the dlc like i played the main game, exploring everything. And man the dlc's were sick. Daud is such a great character. Dishonored 1 straight up catapulted itself into my top 5 favourite games of all time.

Yesterday i started dishonored 2. Playing the tutorial, with it being at night having the same feel as dishonored 1, i was pretty certain it would be as good as dishonored 1 or maybe even better. After playing through the beginning (Delilah's arrival) and then going to Karnaca i just felt like something was off, i couldt put my finger on it. I was sure that i just have to get used to it. So today i played another session. I just healed the doctor woman (forgot her name) and man, wtf was that. The Crown Killer being teased as a sick enemy potentially being a huge part in the story is... someone that just did bad experiments? That whole crown killer thing was just wasted. Why would you tease something as much since the beginning just to waste it like that.

But thats just me, my initial problem isnt the story at all. I mean im still early in the story. My problem is just the feeling itself. The atmosphere. The art style. Corvo himself.

Dont get me wrong, the artstyle is still pretty good but it looks like they tried too hard to make it look more realistic. The gameplay is fine but blink doesnt feel as smooth as in dishonored 1 and the whole game feels more sluggish (not being able to walk while leaning for example) The atmosphere just isnt there. Dishonored 1 had this dirty, lonely and negative feeling to it. It had this pessimistic and importantly DARK feel to it while dishonored 2 just feels generic? I dont know if thats the right word for it. It doesnt feel unique at all. This one is just taste but i liked corvo way more when he was silent. 1. because you could feel more like you are corvo yourself 2. Because that gave corvo that feeling of being straight to the point, just saying enough to prove his point (through dialogue options). In dishonored 2 he just wont shut up. It just doesnt feel right. If i see a place where someone got potentially killed by the crown killer, i want to guess it myself. Look at it without context and see what i puzzle together. Not having corvo telling me something about it. Like i said thats just my taste though.

Dishonored 2 does not feel like dishonored at all. It feels like they decided to have better graphics instead of an unique artstyle. I really struggle trying to play through this game at all. Like literally. The first Dishonored had a rough start for me but i got invested strongly afterwards. So what do you think, should i play through it? Or should i just replay the first dishonored again? My desire to replay dishonored 1 is far bigger than my desire to play the second one. Should i just try to go on? What do you think?

Also the outsiders new voice sucks literal ass, like damn wtf is that shit.

TL:DR I loved the first dishonored but dont like the second one (im at the point where i healed the crown killer) should i push through and see if it is really not that good or should i just replay the first game. (Also the outsiders new voice is horrendous).

Sorry for bad grammar or stuff like that, english is my third language.
