My Outsider's Shrine NightLight - in two realities at the same time. It remains only to listen to the voice of the Heart to find the right way to the Void.

Realizing displace is the most versatile teleport, but also the hardest to use (love letter to Displace)

    Posted: 10 Dec 2021 12:08 AM PST

Though in a way the difficulty made it more fun. Through foresight+displace you're encouraged to find ways to teleport around objects instead of just over them. Teleport behind or above where an enemy is about to be instead of right into their face. Upgraded Blink or Far Reach would basically be an instant kill, and it got pretty boring in OG+ where I could just blink kick everyone (or domino everyone and blink kick one person). With Displace, you could trade some hp to displace into someone (admittedly has like no benefits, it's just hilarious) or you could use foresight to set a marker above or immediately behind them for an assassination.

The time-stop upgrade to Blink ends up robbing it of the only part of it that felt dynamic. Yes, it allows for more complicated maneuvers, but Displace still allows for those without stopping time in the middle of the maneuver. Instead, you stop time beforehand, with Foresight, plan out the teleport, and then execute in one dynamic sequence of actions. You can still do the ol' drop from a ledge and teleport through a window, you just have to make sure to press the button once the marker is visible/purple tether appears. Same with extending rooftop leaps, you can either do the double tap quick-displace or plan it out and displace when you see the tether. I get that time slowing mechanics can be pretty badass at times, but it's hard to beat the feeling of perfectly executing a dynamic or deadly maneuver in real time.

Admittedly, Far Reach's feeling of actually moving instead of teleporting + slingshot capabilities end up resulting in the most exciting exploration. If you don't enjoy the time dilation, you can just avoid purchasing the upgrade. I'm going to keep playing as Emily from time to time just for that reason, and maybe also for the Stilton Manor mission. Still, as it always requires a surface to be used, it continues to feel limited compared to Displace, which is sort of a best-of-both worlds merging of dynamic execution and versatile capabilities. There's something awesome about being able to teleport right above or behind enemies consistently while still having the option of laterally teleporting mid-drop. Plus, you're encouraged to wait after every Far Reach because of the dumb old mana system, which kills the speed quite a bit, and Void Strike effectively replaces the Far Reach enemy grab.

There's the little things unique to Displace too: Being able to teleport in any direction rather than straight forward. Having to sometimes turn around right before or during displacing felt immersive and fluid once mastered. Rapid Displacement allowing you to effectively chain flash-steps omni-directionally during a fight. And then, finally, the extremely underrated ability to teleport through any object you can see through (after using Foresight). While you couldn't do this on the fly because of the way markers could be placed, it feels so, so good to not be obstructed by everything. Displacing through windows, fences, glass cases, people; it never gets old.

Sorry for the rant, but after reading years-old posts about how Displace is super limited and super slow I had to say something. TL;DR it ends up being the most versatile and fast-paced teleport if the time is taken to master it. You can unga bunga with Void Strike instead of blink kick or FR grab.

Why does my copy of Dishonored on Steam have RHCP written next to it? Is this something to do with the country I'm in? Because I travel a lot and would like to play Dishonored no matter where I am.

This gives me Dishonored vibes and reminds me of jindosh

    [BUG/GLITCH] Slow af Blink? (Dishonored)

    Posted: 10 Dec 2021 04:23 AM PST

Since I downloaded this mod over on Nexus that basically gives a new game plus experience to the game, I've noticed something really wonky and irritating. Whenever I use Blink, the time it takes me to transverse from one place to another, I've noticed that it is slower compared to before I downloaded the mod (i.e it would normally take me a 0.2 seconds to Blink but instead it takes me 0.5 seconds). Since this is the only proper Dishonored subreddit on the site, I figured this is where I would ask around.

Also, here is the mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/dishonored/mods/1

Anyone else think it would be interesting to play either a couple of levels or a full game of dishonored in vr? Like I think the game could work well with vr and could allow for some better or smoother feelings.

    [spoilers] Dishonored 3

    Posted: 09 Dec 2021 01:09 AM PST

...is Deathloop, some 110 years after the end of Death of the Outsider. The game clearly takes place outside Tyvia, the Outsider powers and the visionary slabs are the same only with different names, and there are a bunch of reused assets, including some very familiar antique guns. I think it's clever, it gives Arkane a chance to make games in the same universe without having to account for the Corvo arc.
